Our distinguished line of historical English tea blends, which we created especially for the Historic Royal Palaces of England, includes our Earl Grey Imperial. Compared to a regular Earl Grey tea, our Earl Grey Imperial is an elegant tea with a little extra bergamot, making it a must-have for those who desire a touch of "extra" in their Earl Grey.

This fine afternoon tea is a particular blend of four teas from China and India, flavored with the natural oil of Bergamot, and was originally commissioned for British Prime Minister, Earl Grey.

In 1660, the 17th-century diarist Samuel Pepys had his first ever 'Cupp of Tee, a China drink', then only recently introduced to Britain. Catherine of Braganza, Charles II's tea-drinking queen, made it fashionable, and Queen Anne would often enjoy a cup of tea at Hampton Court Palace. The double wedding of Queen Charlotte's sons at Kew in 1818 was even celebrated with a tea party. Until the abolition of import duties in 1784, tea was the expensive preserve of royalty and the rich. Despite its ubiquity in later times, tea remains a truly historic, royal tipple.

The Historic Royal Palaces organization, an independent charity, looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, and Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. The organization helps everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society, in some of the greatest palaces ever built.

Our Earl Grey Imperial tea comes in an elegant tin with 30 sachets. Each sachet contains enough tea to brew up to two cups, depending on your preference. To brew, use filtered water heated to 212°F and steep the tea for 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the sachet and relax while enjoying your cup of tea.

Harney & Sons is a proud member of 1% for the Planet, meaning that we donate one percent of our total sales to environmental organizations of our choice. Our commitment to delivering the finest quality tea possible has been our guiding principle for over 40 years.
